You can make each card slightly different simply by choosing a different section of the patterned paper.
That means one paper pack can create an entire collection of coordinated cards.
What You'll Need
You don't need a huge collection of craft supplies for this project.
Materials Pumpkin Hollow patterned paper
White, cream or kraft cardstock
Black cardstock
Paper trimmer or scissors
Double-sided tape or glue
Ruler
Pencil
Optional: foam adhesive
Optional: ribbon or twine
Optional: small pumpkin embellishments
Optional: Halloween stickers or die-cuts
Optional: ink or distressing tool
For the finished cards, I particularly like using cream cardstock with black matting because it picks up the colours in the Pumpkin Hollow designs without making the cards feel too dark.
Step 1 – Choose Your Pumpkin Hollow Pattern
Start by choosing the section of the paper you want to feature on your card.
This is where patterned paper becomes really useful.
Look for a particularly cute cluster of:
🎃 pumpkins
🐈⬛ black cats
👻 ghosts
🦇 bats
🍂 autumn leaves
🕸️ spiderwebs
You don't need to use the whole sheet.
Instead, think of the patterned paper as a collection of little illustrated scenes that you can crop and frame.
My tip:
Before cutting, place your card blank over the paper and move it around until you find your favourite section.
This lets you decide exactly which pumpkins, cats or ghosts will appear on the finished card.
Step 2 – Cut Your Patterned Panel
For a standard 5 x 7 inch card, cut a patterned panel slightly smaller than the front of your card.
For example, you could use:
5 x 7 inch card blank
4¾ x 6¾ inch patterned panel
4⅞ x 6⅞ inch black mat
The small border around the patterned paper gives the card a more finished, professional appearance.
You can also experiment with different sizes depending on the card blank you're using.
Step 3 – Add a Black Mat
Halloween and black cats are practically made for a black cardstock border!
Cut a piece of black cardstock slightly larger than your patterned panel and attach the patterned paper to it.
This creates a simple frame around the design.
For an even more dimensional look, use thin foam adhesive instead of sticking the panel directly to the card.
The result is a lovely layered effect without needing lots of embellishments.
Step 4 – Create a Focal Point
Although the Pumpkin Hollow paper is already full of detail, adding one small focal point can make your card feel more like a handmade design rather than simply a piece of patterned paper.
Try adding:
🎃 A little pumpkin
Place a small pumpkin embellishment near the bottom corner.
🖤 A black cat
Cut out or use a small cat embellishment and place it overlapping the border.
🕸️ A spiderweb
A small spiderweb in one corner works beautifully with the vintage Halloween feel.
🎀 A ribbon bow
Black-and-white gingham ribbon is particularly effective with the orange and purple pumpkins.
Step 5 – Add Your Sentiment
Now it's time to decide what your card is going to say.
You could keep it simple with:

For a more versatile card, leave the sentiment area blank and add a small cream label where you can write your own message.
